Life was full of these little unforeseen circumstances, but Zacharias Smith wasn't expecting to end up at St Mungo's during the summer holidays.
He wasn't exactly an accident prone person. The worst that had ever happened to him was a Quidditch injury in fifth year, and even then he'd only spent a few hours in the hospital wing. One could say that Zach was a careful person, or more accurately - he didn't take risks where the outcome could be losing limbs or getting bitten by a poisonous plant. Fortunately Zach hadn't lost a limb, but he had been bitten on the shoulder by his Dad's 'greenhouse project' and his flesh had been oozing brownish green for the last four hours.
It had made him feel rather woozy, and he had slept a lot, but now he was awake and his parents had left. They hospital was going to keep Zach in overnight, just for surveillance, but he was more or less free of any deadly plant poisons.
The ward he was in was quiet now. It must have been nearing midnight, but occasionally you'd get the odd opening and closing of doors as the night healers moved around. He didn't feel like lying there for much longer and he was too awake to sleep, to he wrapped himself in his dressing gown and went for a walk around. Most places he couldn't go, but the tearooms on the top floor was actually open. He wondered if he was to go in there, the person serving would send him back to his bed. He'd avoided Healers all the way coming here, as they would certainly not want him out of bed.
He really liked the idea of getting a slice of cake though...
Well, it worked. The cafe server didn't seem to mind him being there, and got him a particularly large slice of chocolate cake and a bucket mug of tea. Happy now, he took it to a table and began munching away at it. Perhaps being in St Mungo's wasn't all that bad...

[attr="class","andytext"] Andromeda wouldn't have been at the hospital that night if not for the fact that most of her colleagues were out partying. It was the wedding of one of her healers and all most all them had wanted to take a leave that night causing Andy and a few other seniors to take the night shift for that day. She had not remembered the last time she had worked on a night shift. After becoming the head healer, she never even bothered to involve herself in night shifts, unless of course she was helping out someone like this day. It had been rather boring for her to just stay in her cabin for the last few hours and read on some of the books. And only after looking at the clock did she realize that Andy would need some caffeine to get through the whole shift without falling asleep. She could hear the footfalls of the medi-witches who were doing their daily rounds checking upon the in-patients. She decided to just step out of her room and get herself some thing to drink while she read.
Moving up the stair cases and to the tea room she heard a small commotion causing her to wonder what the reason was. She heard the words, 'missing' and 'patient' from the healers and she needn't be a seer to guess that one of the in-patient has slipped out of bed, once again. Andy just shook her head with an amused smile, confident that they would be able to find the person, she made her way to the tea room which was almost empty save for one another person. She tilted her head curiously as she could not recognize the person who was eating the cake. She assumed that he was the patient they might be searching for as Andy was very much familiar with the people working in the hospital. After all it was not as though she just started working and did not know the place or the people. She walked to the counter and after getting herself a cup of coffee, she reached near to him as she asked "shouldn't you be in bed?" She was not serious or demanding and neither was she casual, there was a sense of curiosity in her voice as she wanted to know what was wrong with the person in front of him. As far as she could see he seemed to be pretty fine and healthy after all, and she wondered if he was one of those patients who were admitted that very day.

Zacharias hadn't realised how hungry he was. The nurses had given him a little something that evening, but because of the potion he'd been taking all day; everything tasted a little bit like dry concrete. So he hadn't eaten very much of it. Now he had this chocolate cake: moist and rich and stuffed with chocolate buttercream, he stuffed a whole lot inside of his mouth. He just didn't feel like he needed table manners right now without anyone around to criticise him.
Well, as it so happened, when his mouth was particularly full - a voice sounded to his left. He almost spat it all out in surprise. Instead, he just gawped at this woman (she looked about his Mother's age, and he was sure she had been in The Daily Prophet) with his mouth bulging and covered with chocolate cream and crumbs. She definitely was a healer, he could tell that much. She had a kind, patient sort of tone; like she could get the most stubborn of patients to take their medicine just by talking to them, even if they were foul-tasting or suppositories or something equally vulgar.
He flushed slightly, took a napkin and began hastily wiping his mouth whilst chewing. It took a while for him to finish, so he just gazed up at her apologetically every so often. There were still a few crumbs on his chin when he finally spoke.
"Er - yeah - sorry..." There was no point in trying to lie. He couldn't imagine many healers saying a patient could visit the tearooms in the middle of the night, and he obviously wasn't a visitor. The gown told as much. "I should be. But I couldn't sleep. The bed is a little stiff, and I'd been sleeping all day anyway..."
He trailed off. She looked nice. He could trust her. Plus she was an adult - he had a certain level of respect for his elders. Unless they were completely bonkers...
"Do I have to go back?" He asked gloomily, watching the steam rise from her coffee. It was bugging him a little - what was this woman's name? And why was he thinking she had something to do with Bellatrix Lestrange? That was an odd thing to think.
